Daily ten words of Contemporary English with explanation and usage



  1. Abbreviation -noun- a short form of a word (countable) abbreviation of/for                                           <Dr" is the written abbreviation of "Doctor>
  2. Fictional -adj-fictional people,events etc are imaginary and form a book or story OPP factual
  3. Loot - verb-to steal things , especially from shpos or homes that have been dameged in a war or riot. <  Shop were looted and burned >
  4. Cape - noun - along loose piece of clothing without sleeves that fastens around your neck and hangs from your shoulder.                                                                                                                Or a large piece of land surrounded on three sides by water<Cape Cod>
  5. Facilitate-verb- make it easier for a process or activity to happen <computer can be used to facilitate language learning>
  6. Versatile-adj-Someone who is versatile has many skills <a very versatile performer>
  7. Impetus-noun-influence that makes something happen or make it happen more quickly              impetus for <The report may provide further impetus for reform > 
  8. Impulsive-adj-someone who is impulsive does things without considering the possible danger or problem first Rash <Rosa was impulsive and sometimes regretted things she`d done > 
  9. Enthusiastic -adj-feeling or showing a lot of interest and excitement about something          <All the staff are enthusiastic about the project>
  10. Get rid of somebody/something-to throw away or destroy something you do not want any more <It`s time we got rid of all these old toys>
